Ryan's father, Ed Garton, was a third baseman for the Little Falls Mets of the New York-Penn League in 1981, appearing in 54 games…he was drafted in the 18th round that June out of the University of Iowa…both of his grandfathers were ballplayers as well: Ed Garton Sr. pitched for two years in the Pirates system, and his maternal grandfather Thomas Massaro played across the globe while serving in the military...He became the second player in Rays history born in Clearwater, joining RH Ryan Webb…is one of three alumni of J.W. Mitchell High School in New Port Richey to reach the majors, along with RH Tyler Clippard and LH Patrick Schuster...Enjoys fishing, golfing and playing guitar.
