Hellickson optioned to Double-A as McGee returns

ST. PETERSBURG -- Jake McGee was activated from the paternity list prior to Sunday's game, and Jeremy Hellickson was optioned to Double-A Montgomery and will start Monday night at Pensacola, Fla.

The move was made so Hellickson, who just returned from the disabled list, can stay on schedule.

"I wasn't opposed to it," Hellickson said. "It's not too big of a hassle. I definitely need to keep getting work in. I was all for it."

Because the Rays have the All-Star break and off-days before and after the coming two-game series at St. Louis on July 22-23, Tampa Bay does not need Hellickson. He will also start next Sunday in Charlotte before he's recalled for the Boston series at Tropicana Field that begins on July 25.

Hellickson said he was feeling good and was happy with his last start.

"Yeah, I was happy," Hellickson said. "I got a chance to work out of those situations, but for the most part, I was happy getting out there again. Probably my best start, counting the rehab starts. I was just throwing strikes and just around the plate a lot more than I was. I was pleased with it."
