First-base umpire Mike Everitt ruled Mastroianni safe, and Loney immediately motioned to Maddon that he thought he had won the race. Maddon approached Everitt and quickly opted to challenge the call.
The crew, headed by Everitt, retreated to the third-base side of the diamond to review the call. After a review that lasted three minutes and 44 seconds, the decision was made that the ruling on the field stands.
