ST. PETERSBURG -- Joe Maddon challenged an inning-ending double-play in the fifth inning of the Rays-Orioles game at Tropicana Field, but the umpires confirmed the call on the field.
Longoria grounded an 0-2 pitch to shortstop J.J. Hardy, who flipped to Jonathan Schoop and the Orioles second baseman made the relay to first baseman Steve Pearce, who fell to his right while keeping his foot on the base and making the catch.
After a review that lasted two minutes, the call on the field was confirmed.
Maddon has now had 13 challenges on the season. Four have been overturned, four have stood because they were inconclusive, and five have been confirmed.
"I got thumbs up [from the Rays' video room], I got 10 fingers on that one, absolutely, challenge it," Maddon said. "...They told me they thought he'd come off the bag, but apparently he did not."
