Rays-Orioles game postponed due to inclement weather

|

BALTIMORE -- Tuesday night's Rays-Orioles game at Camden Yards has been postponed due to inclement weather.

Because of the rainout, both the Rays and the Orioles will wear No. 42 on Wednesday afternoon in honor of Jackie Robinson, who was recognized throughout the league on Tuesday.

The game will be made up on a yet-to-be-determined date.

"Great call," said Rays manager Joe Maddon, who teased about the game not getting called earlier. "What took you so long?"

Given the fact the Rays aren't hitting well, combined with the fact they just lost starters Alex Cobb and Matt Moore to the disabled list, Maddon was asked if the rainout was fortuitous for the Rays.

"I was not opposed to [playing the game]," Maddon said. "Listen, if the weather was good, I was all for playing that game today. No question. Much rather not have a rainout, absolutely. regardless of whether you're banged up or not, you play. But under the circumstances today and how it all played out...

"Even last night we used our bullpen [the way the Rays did] after looking at the weather in advance. I thought we could use more bullpen last night based on there being a pretty good chance tonight's game would be rained out. All those things were considered."

Maddon announced that right-hander Jake Odorizzi will start Wednesday afternoon's game and left-hander David Price will start Thursday night when the Rays open a four-game series against the Yankees at Tropicana Field. Miguel Gonzalez is expected to start for the Orioles on Wednesday.

After that, the Rays manager said he did not know the order of his rotation. One consideration will be to slide right-hander Chris Archer in between left-handers Cesar Ramos and Erik Bedard.

"So we just want to figure that part out," Maddon said. "How we're going to lay those three guys out."
