TORONTO -- Evan Longoria is the 2009 Rays' nominee for the Heart and Hustle Award.
Last season's American League Rookie of the Year Award winner has not suffered from the sophomore jinx while continuing to make a major impact for the Rays on offense and defense.
The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association created the Heart and Hustle Award in 2005, voted on by former Major League players and presented annually to an active player who demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game.
The 2009 Heart and Hustle Award will be presented at the Legends for Youth Dinner on Nov. 6 in New York. This year will mark the fifth time the MLBPAA has given this award. Each team selects a recipient before the overall winner is announced.
