Rays acquire reliever Wesley Wright from Astros


ST. PETERSBURG, FL-The Tampa Bay Rays have claimed left-handed relief pitcher Wesley Wright off waivers from the Houston Astros. He is expected to join the Rays in St. Petersburg prior to tomorrow's game vs. the Seattle Mariners. A corresponding move for the 25-man roster will be made at a later time.

Wright, 28, has a 3.92 ERA (41.1-IP, 18-ER) this season and leads all American League lefties with 54 appearances. In 41.1 innings pitched, he has totaled 40 strikeouts and only 16 BB. He has compiled a 2.08 ERA (8.2-IP, 2-ER) since the All-Star break.

The left-handed pitcher has spent five seasons in the majors, all with the Astros. In 2012, Wright's 77 appearances were tied for eighth-most among all major league relievers. For his career, he is 10-15 with a 4.44 ERA in 286 games.
