Rays homestand begins with games vs. Yankees & Marlins

The Tampa Bay Rays open a five-game homestand on Friday, May 24, with a three-game set against American League East opponent the New York Yankees (May 24-26) before a two-game series with the Miami Marlins (May 27-28).

The weekend series vs. New York (May 24-26) will feature the first Tampa Bay Times Ticket Tandem of the season.  Ticket Tandems include a ticket to any of the three games plus a special edition Fernando Rodney Figurine commemorating his historic 2012 season, only available through this offer.  For Ticket Tandem details, visit raysbaseball.com/tandems.

Prior to Saturday’s 4:10 p.m. game against the Yankees, the Rays, the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS), the Taylor Hooton Foundation and Major League Baseball Charities will host PLAY—Promoting a Lifetime of Activity for Youth—for kids ages 7 to 17 and their parents at 10:30 a.m. at Tropicana Field.  The PLAY program was created to educate young people about the dangers of steroids and to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. 

The Rays athletic training staff and members of the Taylor Hooton Foundation staff will conduct the hands-on PLAY clinic that covers a variety of health-related topics.  Rays lefthander David Price will also make an appearance.  Each participant is automatically registered to win tickets to a Rays game. Saturday’s ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.

When the Rays and Yankees face off on Sunday, May 26 at 1:40 p.m., kids 14 and under will receive a special Rays Snap Watch, presented by Tampa Bay Times while supplies last.

Also on Sunday, the Long Haul Bombers continue their Stadium Power Tour at Tropicana Field beginning at 12:30 p.m.  The Long Haul Bombers are the "best of the best" in the world of softball and will compete in a home run derby on the field prior to the game.

Monday’s 3:10 p.m. game vs. Miami is also the Rays’ Salute to Veterans game as the Rays recognize past and present members of the Armed Forces on Memorial Day.  To purchase tickets for this event, fans can visit raysbaseball.com/specialevents to order and to find out more information.  The deadline to purchase tickets specifically for this event is Saturday, May 25 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

In honor of Memorial Day, the Rays and Marlins—along with all other active Major League Baseball clubs—will also wear specially designed caps and jerseys that feature an authentic military digital camouflage design licensed by the United States Marine Corps.

Monday’s gates will open two hours prior to game time as the Rays wives and Marlins wives will take part in their annual Citrus Cup charity softball game beginning at 1:00 p.m.  The contest will benefit Shake-A-Leg Miami and Autism Speaks Tampa Bay Charter.

Also throughout the Rays series vs. the Marlins, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will have volunteers on-site engaging with fans to share the message of its new campaign, “Alert Today Alive Tomorrow” by sharing Florida traffic statistics as well as safety tips for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists.  FDOT’s goal is to ensure that residents and visitors have safe routes to and from their destinations. “Alert Today Alive Tomorrow” is a campaign designed to increase awareness of pedestrian and bicycle safety and to reduce fatalities on Florida roadways.  This campaign is part of a comprehensive approach that includes high visibility enforcement, education, engineering, and emergency services.

On Tuesday, May 28 vs. Miami, the Rays will host the annual Broadcast Auction to benefit the Rays Baseball Foundation and Tampa General Hospital Foundation.  Fans will have the opportunity to bid on exclusive auction items including pitching lessons with reigning Cy Young winner David Price, hitting lessons with Rays slugger Matt Joyce, a trip to the All-Star game and more.  Tickets to the fourth annual Maddon's Summer Social will also go on sale during the auction which kicks off at 7:10 p.m. during Rays TV and radio broadcasts.  For a full listing of auction items and details visit raysbaseball.com/broadcastauction.
