A native of Hazleton, Pa., Maddon was honored by the state House of Representatives.
"A great day, but a long day," said Maddon. "The people were great."
Maddon and his mother, Beanie, were guests of Rep. Todd A. Eachus, who introduced H.R. 303, which honors and recognizes Maddon's accomplishments during the 2008 Major League Baseball season.
In addition to Maddon being honored, there was a resolution for the late Harry Kalas, the famed broadcaster of the Phillies and the father of Rays broadcaster Todd Kalas. When Kalas was honored, many donned Phillies hats, which Maddon smiled about, pointing out the irony that the Rays had lost to the Phillies in last year's World Series. To combat the barrage of Phiillies hats, Maddon said he simply put a Rays hat atop his head.
Maddon said he was really glad he went, even though he had been a little tired in advance of making the trip.
"It was one of those days I'll never forget," Maddon said.
