ST. PETERSBURG -- Tampa Bay traded catcher Stephen Vogt to Oakland for a player to be named later or cash.

Vogt, 28, has been optioned to Triple-A Sacramento. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A's designated right-handed pitcher Dan Otero for assignment.

Vogt saw his first Major League action over three stints with the Rays in 2012 and made the Opening Day roster. He appeared in 18 games, including four starts, and went 0-for-25. He has a .299 career Minor League average.
