Longoria Home Runs will again aid animal shelter

|

ST. PETERSBURG, FL-For the second consecutive season, every home run hit by Rays All-Star third baseman Evan Longoria will benefit the Pet Pal Animal Shelter, a no-kill, nonprofit shelter in St. Petersburg. For every home run he hits during the 2013 season, Longoria will join Bright House Sports Network, the Rays and Ducky's Sports Lounge to each donate $100 to the shelter.

Longoria and his girlfriend, Jaime Edmondson, have two rescue dogs, Jango, an eight-year-old bull terrier and Tatum, a four-year-old Boerboel Mastiff.

"We were so thrilled last year to have been chosen by Evan and Jaime," said Scott Daly, Executive Director of Pet Pal Animal Shelter. "We look forward to saving even more lives this year with the help of this magnificent Fundraiser."

"Jaime and I are thankful to be a in a position that allows us to continue to support the great work being done by Pet Pal," Longoria said. "We're also grateful to Bright House Sports Network and the Rays for their continued support. Hopefully we can increase this year's donation."

Despite missing more than half of last season with a partially torn left hamstring, Longoria hit 17 home runs leading to a $6,000 donation to Pet Pal.

Pet Pal Animal Shelter is a no-kill nonprofit organization committed to rescuing dogs and cats from animal shelters that may otherwise be euthanized due to time limitations, illness, injuries or lack of socialization and training. Pet Pal is also dedicated to educating the public about the pet overpopulation crisis, the importance of spaying/neutering and responsible pet ownership.
