Upton day-to-day with ailing quad

ST. PETERSBURG -- Rays center fielder B.J. Upton left Sunday's game against the White Sox in the second inning with tightness in his right quadriceps muscle. He was replaced by Gabe Kapler.

Upton missed the first week of the season as he continued to recover from offseason surgery on his left shoulder. He returned to the lineup on Monday against the Yankees and had played every game since.

He led off the first inning Sunday with a single off White Sox starter Gavin Floyd and moved to second base on a groundout by Carl Crawford. He then stole third base and played the top half of the second before leaving the game.
