Laceration under eye holds Beckham out of workouts

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Tim Beckham will be held out of workouts for the next couple of days after suffering a laceration underneath his right eye.

The injury, which required several stitches, occurred on Friday during an infield drill on one of the back fields at the Charlotte Sports Complex.

"[The ball] hit the tip of my glove and hit me in the shades," Beckham said. "Just a freak accident. Can happen to anybody, just comes with the territory I guess. You're playing baseball. You're supposed to catch the ball with your glove, not your face."

Beckham showed reporters the glasses he was wearing that did not break. He noted that he did not suffer from blurred vision or headaches and finished by saying, "I was lucky, man."
