Longoria misses camp after birth of daughter

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Evan Longoria was not in camp on Thursday for the second consecutive day due to the birth of his daughter.

According to Maddon, the baby daughter of Longoria and his girlfriend, Jaime Edmondson, was born Wednesday night, which Maddon discovered by random chance after sending Longoria a text message that night.

"I texted him right about the time of birth, almost," Maddon said. "I just wanted to know that he was well and obviously she was well and the baby was well and everything was fine. And that's all I wrote. I didn't say when you need to be back. I didn't ask him when he was going to be back. I just told him to take care of what you need to do and let us know."

No official announcement was made about the birth. Maddon told reporters he did not know when Longoria would be back in camp.

The due date for Longoria's and Edmondson's baby had been April 1, but labor for the birth was induced Wednesday.
