BOSTON -- Florida Gov. Charlie Crist will be on the hill for the Rays' home opener for a third consecutive season when he throws out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Monday's game against the Yankees at Tropicana Field.
Last year, Crist shared the duties with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Mike Alstott. Crist also threw out the first pitch before Game 6 of the 2008 American League Championship Series.
Crist is the 44th governor of the state of Florida, and though he was born in Altoona, Pa., he was raised in St. Petersburg and is a graduate of St. Petersburg High School. He served as general counsel for the National
Association of Professional Baseball Leagues in St. Petersburg from 1982-87.
