ST. PETERSBURG -- Breaking from their normal practice, the Rays will fly up to Boston on Sunday morning rather than after the game Saturday night.
Sunday's Rays workout at Fenway Park in preparation for Monday's Game 3 of the American League Championship Series is at 6:30 p.m. ET, which prompted the change in philosophy.
"It's going to be real late [Saturday night when the game is over]," Maddon said. "We aren't going to work out until 6:30 tomorrow. Had we had an earlier workout slot, we would have flown out tonight.
"By doing it this way, it gives everyone another night in their own bed. Feels like we'll be up there a week. So just thought it would make it easier on everybody."
The Rays' team bus will leave Tropicana Field at 11 a.m. Sunday and the charter will leave the Clearwater/St. Petersburg Airport at noon.
Having the 6:30 workout slot "permitted us to fly up the day of and still have a nice dinner and get some rest," Maddon said. "It's balanced on both sides."
