Manager Joe Maddon says that Bartlett started feeling badly following yesterday's game in St. Louis.
Some strand of 24-hour bug has hit third-base coach Tom Foley, pitching coach Jim Hickey, bench coach Davey Martinez, head athletic trainer Ron Porterfield, and now, Bartlett.
"The coaches and training staff have had it," Maddon said. "[Bartlett] came in today and I wanted to give Aki the day off, but because of that I decided to give J.B. the day off."
"They all were pretty green around the gills," Maddon said.
Zobrist would have started at second had Bartlett played.
"At some point, I want to give Aki a day off," Maddon said. "He's been going pretty steady. ... Aki did not ask for it, he said he was fine."
Bartlett was not totally incapacitated, and despite his ailment, was available to play in Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
