'Wrestling Night' returns to The Trop

ST. PETERSBURG -- Saturday night brought the return of "Wrestling Night" to Tropicana Field following the Rays' 5-0 win over the White Sox.

"It's nothing more than something fun," Rays outfielder Jonny Gomes said. "I think wrestling has a really, really big fan base. I know some of the guys, too. They're going to get out there and have a good time."

Gomes participated in the initial "Wrestling Night" on May 19, 2007, when he "threw a trash can on some dude's head" before helping The Nasty Boys win. Gomes once again saved the day after The Nasty Boys had already won their match, but were taken down by the bad guys after doing so. The Rays' right fielder, who helped Tampa Bay offensively in Saturday night's win, brought in a garbage can and The Nasty Boys put the prop to good use.

All of the wrestlers were introduced prior to the game in advance of the three matches that took place afterward, featuring Screamin' Norman Smiley vs. Tatanka; Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake vs. Smash from Demolition; and The Nasty Boys vs. "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner and Buff Bagwell.
