The Rays shortstop swung at a pitch, then grimaced in pain. Josh Wilson entered the game as Zobrist's replacement and had to finish Zobrist's at-bat, grounding into an inning-ending double play.
Zobrist will be evaluated later to determine the extent of the injury. Rays manager Joe Maddon said he doesn't expect the news to be good, noting that the injury reminded him of the one suffered by Akinori Iwamura that caused the Rays third baseman to spend 29 days on the disabled list. The Rays will likely have to make a move on Sunday to bring in another infielder.
Zobrist is hitting .155 with one home run and nine RBIs for the season.
