Shields throws heat in Rays' loss

at St. Petersburg, Fla.
Sunday, March 11

Astros at the plate: Mike Lamb had an RBI single in the first inning, a walk in the third and drove home two with a fifth-inning single. Lamb is hitting .320 for the spring with six RBIs.

Rays at the plate: Joel Guzman had an RBI single in the ninth for his fourth RBI of the spring, while Elliot Johnson drove home two with a single. Rays hitters had a tough time against Astros pitchers, as they managed just five hits on the day -- all singles.

Astros on the mound: Non-roster invitee Brian Moehler made his third appearance of the spring and pitched well. The right-hander held the Rays scoreless for four innings, setting them down in order for the first three innings before allowing a walk and a single in his final frame.

Rays on the mound: James Shields made his third start of the spring, and after a slow start, the right-hander finished off his four-inning stint strong. He allowed one earned run in the first inning before retiring nine of the final 10 hitters he faced, striking out five and walking one.

Grapefruit League records: Astros 7-4; Rays 1-10.

Up next: The Astros will play the Phillies in Clearwater, Fla., on Monday in a 1:05 p.m. ET contest. Right-hander Matt Albers will start for the Astros. Left-hander J.A. Happ will start for the Phillies.

The Rays will host the Tigers on Monday at Progress Energy Park in a 1:05 p.m. ET contest that will feature Casey Fossum making his first start of the spring. Right-hander Jeremy Bonderman will start for the Tigers.
