Shields solid, but Rays fall to Reds

Rays at the plate: Delmon Young went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Carl Crawford stole a base and scored a run.

Reds at the plate: Adam Dunn had two singles in three at-bats with an RBI. Alex Gonzalez went 1-for-3, including a run-scoring single.

Rays on the mound: Starter James Shields pitched two scoreless innings and gave up one hit. The right-hander allowed a leadoff single in the second inning to Adam Dunn but then retired the side with two strikeouts and a flyout. Gary Glover gave up three runs on four hits in two innings of work.

Reds on the mound: Starter Eric Milton surrendered two hits and one run in three innings. Matt Belisle tossed three scoreless innings in relief.

Grapefruit League records: Rays 1-4; Reds 6-0.

Up next: The Rays host the Indians on Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. ET at Progress Energy Field in St. Petersburg. Right-hander Dan Miceli makes his first start of the spring. The Reds visit the Yankees on Wednesday at Legends Field in Tampa. Left-hander Bobby Livingston is scheduled to start in the 7:15 p.m. night game.
